About me I have always believed that passion fuels success. As I look back on my career path as well as my academic path, this statement deems to be true, as without the passion that I have, I would not have made it thus far today. My name is Tasleem Hassim, I am a lecturer at the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus. I completed my bachelors degree in Social Work in 2009, an honours degree in Psychology in 2010 and a masters in Social Work in 2012. I have also been acknowledged for my 75% and above achievement as well as the golden key international honour society.
During my undergraduate years as a student, I was well known for my technological expertise, my discipline, passion for education as well as my professionalism even as a student. I have accomplished a realm of experience in the teaching and learning profession. During my honours year as a psychology student I was given the opportunity to provide facilitation to first and second year psychology students. This increased my level of confidence as well as my interest in the field of teaching and learning.
During my first and second year of my post graduate studies, I was given the opportunity to lecture on a part time basis. While lecturing I also worked as a therapist and adoption social worker at SAVF, a well-known NGO that renders services to children and those in need of care and protection.
After having successfully completing my masters, I was invited to present my masters research at two conferences, local and international. The title of my masters research study was: “Resilience in a group of first-year psychosocial science students at the North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus”
I was appointed as a permanent lecturer from 2013 and I have been through all three phases of the Institutional course for new lecturers, furthermore I have been evaluated by the academic support of the North-West University and a positive evaluation was received. I have also been selected for the Open Varsity Season 4 program that was featured on SABC 2 where I was given the opportunity to record lectures for public viewing.
Currently, I am in the final stages of my second master’s degree, master’s degree in positive psychology, with a focus on Academic resilience and protective factors .
I consider myself as a passionate and dedicated person in terms of teaching and learning. I would like to pursue my career in teaching and learning with specific interest in students and the use of technology in the classroom. I have recently attended the SOTL and Innovator’s at work information session and would like to apply for funding for a new innovator at work project. Today I feel armed with the security of knowing that my compassion will be fuelled towards my destination and driven by the passion it takes to enrich the lives of others, the rest I leave in Gods hands. Thank you, Tasleem Hassim
